Josh “Danger” Marer is learning that patience is a virtue in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship Squared Circle.
The 32-year-old Atlanta lightweight prides himself on being an aggressive pressure fighter. But after his first two fights with BKFC, he’s adapting his style to be a little bit more reactive.
“I’m naturally a pressure fighter,” he says.
“I naturally like to walk my opponent down, put them in the corner and hurt them, but I need to be a lot more patient and not focus on finishing the fight, and just enjoy it a bit more.”
Marer returns to action against Brandon Bushaw (1-0, 1 NC) at BKFC 52 on Oct. 20 in Columbia, SC, LIVE on The BKFC App.
Marer is hunting for his first victory under the BKFC banner after a pair of ill-fated trips to the Squared Circle. A third straight loss can be a tough pill to swallow, but Marer doesn’t feel like his back is against the wall – he’s ready to rise to the occasion.
“It takes some fighters a little longer to find their groove, and that’s what I’m going to show with this one,” he says.
“Somebody is getting dropped,” he adds. “This is not going to be a split decision – somebody is getting dropped.”
Marer says his first BKFC victory will be worth the wait.
“This victory is going to be a lot sweeter.”
