It was far from business as usual for Luis Palomino at BKFC 70.
For the first time in his legendary bare knuckle fighting career, the former two-division BKFC World Champion was coming off a loss in the Squared Circle. And standing across from him was one of the toughest tasks of his iconic tenure with the world's fastest growing combat sports promotion, Howard Davis. Palomino’s BKFC 70 matchup was the only bout of his current agreement with BKFC, so the Peruvian-born Miami fighter knew he needed to deliver an epic fight for the fans.
“Thanks to BKFC, I own a home and have built a great life for my family. But it’s like getting an A in school. It’s a lot harder to maintain that high mark than it is just to get it in the first place,” Palomino says with a chuckle.
“I was fighting for my life; I was fighting to support my family and my livelihood,” he adds. “That was the most important fight of my career.”
Palomino, of course, rose to the occasion, scoring the win over Davis in an action-packed, five-round battle at the sold-out Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL, LIVE worldwide on DAZN.
“My wife has told me many times that I perform well under pressure,” he says with a laugh. “Nobody really wants to be in those positions, but being under pressure brings the best out of me. It leaves a very small margin for error, so I’ve got to be at my best.”
Palomino hopes his victory at BKFC 70 convinces BKFC management to grant him a shot at reclaiming either the BKFC World Lightweight Championship, which is currently held by Franco Tenaglia, or the BKFC World Welterweight Championship, which current titleist Austin Trout is set to defend against Carlos Trinidad-Snake on Friday in the Main Event of BKFC 71 in Dubai, LIVE exclusively on DAZN.
“I’m coming to get my belts back.”
