Quentin Henry is going for gold.
In the Main Event of BKFC 30 on Oct. 1, Henry challenges Lorenzo Hunt for the BKFC World Cruiserweight Championship in Monroe, LA, LIVE on the BKFC app.
Henry says the belt will be a nice "explanation point" on his body of work in the Squared Circle.
"I come from a small town, and my whole career I've been told that I have to move to a big gym in a big city to be successful, but I like the people we train with, I like the way we do things. I knew that if I kept pushing and working, I could show everyone that you could do it from a small town," said Henry, who had a pro MMA record of 12-6 before signing with BKFC.
"At the end of the day, getting the belt is a cool milestone in the whole process," he added. "You get to the top of the hill, then you're onto the next step in the journey."
Standing in Henry's path, of course, is Hunt. "The Juggernaut," as he's known to fighting fans around the world, is the No. 2-ranked fighter on the BKFC Pound-for-Pound rankings. This hugely anticipated headline fight has been years in the making. Hunt brings a 7-1 record into battle, while Henry boasts a record of 5-1 since his Squared Circle debut in 2019. The two heavy-hitting big men have been a collision course for years, Henry said.
Very few fighters in the world of BKFC are as highly respected as Hunt. But Henry isn't a member of Hunt's fan club. Far from it.
"Some of his fans are so rude, always trying to troll nasty stuff on my page. They think they're getting in my head or something, but it just makes my run even better. I was reading some of their comments before my run today, and they had me grinning from ear to ear," Henry said with a chuckle.
"Just wait."
Henry's prediction seems more personal than usual for the business-like fighter.
"It's going to be a knockout, or – and this is what I prefer – he quits on the stool. Getting knocked out is the easy way out. But if I can make him quit, there will be no dispute about what went down."
