Kai Stewart makes history at BKFC 44

June 12, 2023

Kai Stewart is now the youngest champ in BKFC history and the first BKFC World Featherweight Champion.

Kai Stewart made history on Friday.

The undefeated fighter became the first ever BKFC World Featherweight Champion with his unanimous decision victory over rival Louie Lopez in the Main Event of BKFC 44 in his hometown of Great Falls, MT. With the win, the 22-year-old Stewart became the youngest champion in BKFC history.

“I got laughed at and ridiculed, but I put my mind towards something and came out victorious,” Stewart says.

“To be the youngest BKFC Champion and the first 145-pound World Champion – that’s going to be a moment that lives in my head forever.”

Stewart celebrated this weekend by indulging in some tacos, adult beverages and playing a bit of shuffleboard. But, by the sounds of it, the celebration won’t last long.

“I’m still gonna be all gas, no breaks,” Stewart says with a laugh. “David Feldman said it best – I’ve got an uphill battle ahead of me and a lot of people counting me out, but I’m putting my best foot forward, getting better and defending my belt.”

There are several matchups that excited the fast-rising Stewart, but none more so than Dat Nguyen, the fan-favorite former BKFC World Champion.

“I think that’s a really good matchup and, being a former champ, that’s a name that’s going to push me more towards superstardom,” he says. “I think I win that fight, and it’s a fight that excites me. I think he’s the No. 1 guy in the division behind me, so that’s a fight that’s gotta happen.”
